Welcome to Petra Guenthner’s fiber arts portfolio.
Petra creates both fine and functional artworks from her home in Lancaster, Wisconsin. Inspired by the fabrics and materials that she collects from old garments, friends, thrift stores and the occasional home improvement project, her artwork is widely varied and deeply informed by the materials at hand.
The fine art weavings in Petra’s studio often begin their physical life as a drawings rendered in cattle marker. This method allows for a flexible and fluid outlet for endless exploration and manipulation of form and color impressions before the design ideas are translated into works of fiber art.
Unbound designs is the functional aspect of Petra’s artwork, it includes modern rag rugs and a collection of handbound journal covers and inserts.
